So, Thursday we went to the Tepehuanes! Finally! We thought we wouldn't be able to go, but early morning, we packed tight in Alfonso's truck and headed off because we had to catch the bus...literaly! Alfonso was trying to get ahead of the bus because we missed it, so the race was on! Eventually, we got ahead of the bus and flagged it down! So Morgan, Laura and Kelsey quickly climbed on the bus and we started for Escuinapa! It was quite an adventerous start to our day! We reached the Tepehuanes around 1 and parked right in front of the Cheif's hut where we first visited! The cheif's wife was preparing fresh corn tortillas for us when we came in! She was still in the first step of grinding the corn up! Kelsey, Kyle, Laura and Morgan all helped grind the corn, too! And actually, when Kyle was grinding, he did it so hard that the grind machine broke and fell in pieces! Luckily, we were able to put it back together! Later on, kids started showing up, so we went outside to play with them! We had brought toys for them to play with like hoola-hoops and skips-its! We're not sure if they had seen those toys before, so we had to show them how to use them! It was a good ice breaker for the kids and for us! Alfonso and the guys wanted to play volleyball, so we walked over to the court so they could play! A bunch of older guys were already playing so Alfonso challenged them to play against us! Kelsey, Morgan, Preston, Kyle and Alfonso played and lost terribly! Those guys are good! The rest of the afternoon was a lot interaction with the kids! We played freeze tag, duck, duck, goose, we sang worship songs with them and we brought a snack and a little drink for them! While everyone was eating their snack, some of the kids decided to climb the tree and slide down the brances! Morgan and Preston thought it would be a great idea to try it out, so up they went! We got some video footage and we'll let that explain it all!
After that, we went back to the chief's house to eat some grub! It was the most amazing tortillas, beans, eggs and cactus we had ever eaten before! As Janae would say, "It was fantastic!" We were very honored to be invited and to be welcomed by the chief and his wife! Most people aren't welcomed in the village because the history of their people is to not trust anyone because of how they were treated by the Spaniards. We were very privilaged to visit with them and to share the love of Christ! Pastor Joe, about 10 years ago, connected with this group that has now enabled us to continue relationships there in the village! That is an answered prayer and we are so grateful to God that He has opened up the door for us to reach this unsaved people group!
One of the pastor's kid from Espiritu y verdad went with us
we are a bit wind blown, we had been riding on the freeway for about 40 minutes....

making the tortillas......

we will load the videos soon, because for some reason everytime we try and upload them, they are taking a long time, so they will be up soon...blessings!!
